Decided to attend the USS Coral Sea reunion in Las Vegas from October 2nd to October 7th. Since having my triple by-pass operation last year I have always wanted to visit the Heart Attack Grill in Phoenix, Arizona. So I decided to "kill two birds with one stone". My old Navy buddy, Bob Narey, was flying into Vegas to meet me for the reunion. We decided to have him fly into Phoenix and I would drive down, pick him up and we would visit the Heart Attack Grill and leave for Vegas and the reunion the next day. The highlight of our trip came when we found out another old Navy "shipmate", Don Sabo, lived just outside of Phoenix. We had not seen him in 48 years! We contacted Donny and he was ready to meet us when we arrived in Phoenix. He even "scouted out the Heart Attack Grill before we got there so we would be able to find it. I arrived in Phoenix and we went to the airport to pick up Bob. From there, we went to the Heart Attack Grill. Had a great time there meeting Dr. Jon (the owner) and his "nurses". I finally was able to order my triple by-pass burger. I never ate the entire burger so didn't qualify for the wheelchair ride back to the car by a nurse... Leaving the Heart Attack Grill, we returned to Donny's home where we met his wife, Berta,a lovely woman who welcomed us with open arms even though she had never met us before. We stayed the night in Phoenix, said goodbye to Donny & Berta and Bob and I got on the road to Las Vegas. Spent the next four days at the USS Coral Sea reunion and checking out Las Vegas. Had a great time and renewed old friendships.
