The Pelican Inn
Marin, California

The song playing is "Unchained Melody"

The romantic getaway over the hills to the beach... a country inn capturing the spirit of 16th century England awaits you. Scarcely 20 minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge, the hospitable Pelican Inn nestles at Muir Beach in the sea-blown fog, among the pines and alders, the honeysuckle and jasmine - a refuge between the ocean and the redwoods.

Cozy bedrooms with private baths are graced with English antiques, and a heavily draped canopy bed. A stone with a hole hangs over the bed (to insure no rickets in case of pregnancy). Witches and the little folk are all kept at bay, making the Pelican Inn a safe haven from the evil eye. A decanter of sherry bedside, fresh flowers, and in the morning a hearty English breakfast.

Firelight flickering on the rough-hewn beams, a dinner bell signals the commencement of feasting and merrymaking. In the tradition of English Country Inns, hearty dishes are served at lunch and dinner and snacks in the afternoon. Enjoy succulent bangers, cottage pie, fresh salads, prime rib, rack of lamb, and home baked desserts served before the fireplace or on the patio.

For the pleasures of another time, take your convivial cup of wine, mead, or cider into the great brick fireplace complete with priest hole (secret hiding place) and chamber for smoking hams.
