NAVAL AIR ENGINEERING SERVICE UNIT (NAESU) HEADQUARTERS
NAVAL STATION, PHILADELPHIA

NAESU was established in 1942 for the sole purpose of providing Engineering Technical Services for Naval Aviation. World War II was under-way and Radar had just been invented, and young sailors needed technical help.

Over the years, the technical assistance provided by "NAESU TECH REPS" included every facet of Naval Aviation, from the electronics that guided the aircraft, to the wings that supported the aircraft while in flight, to the engines that provided the power and to the Ground Support Equipment used to maintain the aircraft.

For 55 years NAESU was under the command of the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), and for the past thirty-some years, headquartered at Naval Station Philadelphia. A decision was made that NAESU would combine with NATSF and form a new single command with two departments (NAESU and NATSF). In January of 1999, NAESU Hdqs and NATSF were relocated to the Naval Air Station at North Island. The name of the new combined command is NATEC.

But the heart of NAESU was not the aircraft that it supported nor the Commands under which NAESU served. It was the people; the "tech reps" in the field and the administrative people in the offices supporting them. They formed the heart of NAESU! "Tech Reps" as defined here, are all former/current, military, civil servant and contractor personnel- NAESU EMPLOYEES. It is for this reason, the people, that we're attempting to accumulate a database so that NAESU will never die.
