Cypress Inn
Carmel, California

The song playing is "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face"

Located where the sky, sea and earth blend magically together in a portrait of natural beauty, Carmel-by-the Sea enchants its vistors with breathtaking views. The village of Carmel...a charming collection of storybook houses, quaint cottages and regal residences nestled in a beautiful pine forest.

Sunny balconies, intimate courtyards and a labyrinth of small streets offer picturesque settings for unusual boutiques, prestigious galleries and a collage of goumet restaurants serving almost every world cuisine.

We stay at the Cypress Inn owned by actress Doris Day. Cypress Inn, located in the heart of Carmel, is an important part of the history and tradition of this beautiful area. Each room is delightfully different with its own distinctive and tasteful character. Today's amenities - are made more special by additional touches...daily newspapers, fruit baskets, a decanter of sherry and, most important of all, a staff ready to provide the warmth and personal service only a small hotel can offer. The Inn was designed for pet lovers. You are greeted at the reception desk by the resident black Standard Poodle named "Cloe". It's not unusual to see people strolling in and out of the lobby with dogs of all sizes. Upon arrival, animals are greeted with dog biscuits, special beds, and other pet pamperings. As it is forbidden to leave dogs or cats alone in the rooms, pet sitters are available. In the wood-beamed living room is a thick photo album showing all the furry friends who have visited the inn. Cody loved the Cypress Inn as does Boomer. He accompanied us in the cozy cocktail lounge, at night, while we enjoyed our favorite drinks. In the morning, we awaken to a generous continental breakfast served in the warmth of the sunny breakfast room, or in the serenity of the colorful garden courtyard. Again Boomer, like Cody, enjoyed breakfast with us.

Minutes away, too, are the many attractions of the Monterey Peninsula - 17 Mile Drive, Steinbeck's Cannery Row, the Monterey Bay Aquarium , world renowned Pebble Beach, and Nepenthe on the majestic Big Sur coast.

We especailly like to visit Clint Eastwood's Mission Ranch for dinner and then a few late night drinks and songs around the piano bar. We were even fortunate enough to meet Clint while celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary at the Ranch.

Anne says "as soon as we win the California Lottery we are moving to Carmel."
